Contemporary Insanity In Rural, Arizona
The insanity is rapidly accelerating, geometrically, even! Here, in this quiet, sedate community, along the sixth longest River in North America, a new mine is opening up .....sometime in the next 5-6 years! At the time, the infrastructure is being built and Construction Workers, temporary residents, are being extended our finest lodging for the duration of their quest, at rental rates that run 200% to 300% above what the local economy, back when we had a stable economy, could bear.
New homes are being built or proposed for a dickless number.......south of town, 6,000 new homes! And that's just a drop in the pail! One Bedroom Apartments are asking $400 a WEEK! 3 Bedroom Trailer Rentals are asking, get this, $2,600 a Month!
Now, I ask you........and consider, please, that 80-90% of the working population of the Upper Gila River Valley, Arizona, are your Retail Clerks, your Dishwashers, Waiters, Waitresses, Bartenders, Maintenance Men & Women, Desk Clerks, Cooks, Yard Men, Farm Hands, Bussers, Inn Keepers, Small Shop Employees, Grocery Store Baggers, Fork Lift Drivers, Stockers..........and many I have missed!
Just where are these folks expected to LIVE as the housing costs soar?
Who, Indeed, is going to buy, and live in these 6,000 Plus New Homes? What are they going to do to earn a living? Ain't gonna be no 6,000 jobs at the new mine! And, that is only One of 4-5 New Home Developements I have heard of!
OK, Now.....Let's say that we become a community based upon Tourism.......Snowbirds have been leaving Arizona for better than 10 years, due to Price Gouging! And that was in areas which had multiple attractions! What we have here is a quiet, peaceful community.....nothing flashy except Mount Graham and Riggs Lake and just how long will these places exist under the strain of thousands of new "residents" who have no jobs?
The only people who stand to benefit from this fiasco are the local politicians, who will bring in new Tax Revenue so they can vote themselves a 300% Wage Raise..........and attain "Job Security"!
We, the true LifeBlood of this Community, are already being forced out of our homes by the greedy price-gouging of those incolved in the developement of the new mine. We have no place to go. We are the Future Homeless of Graham County.
Unless, of course, you decide that, since no American wants to do our job, we need to allow illegal immigrants to come in.......BUT! WHERE are They Going to Live?

Well, Normie....you hit the nail on the head with this one. I can't believe all the changes I see when I go back. Sheeeesh....all those who are greedy are going to profit from this. That just doesn't seem quite right to me....
